brooch Lunar Phases

The moon is constantly being born, aging, and dying in the night sky. We perceive the regular rhythm of the moon phases, and it influences us more than we often realize. Many movements on earth, natural processes, and the tides are subject to its gravitational pull. But does the moon's influence extend further into our minds, behavior, and experiences?

I have captured the cyclical movement represented by the individual phases of the moon in a limited collection of eight signed brooches: Nov. Waxing crescent. First quarter. Waxing moon. Full moon. Waning moon. Last quarter. Waning crescent. The edges of the moon, corresponding to each of the eight phases, stand out plastically under a thin layer of Barrisol and play the same game of light and shadow as the cosmic body itself in the sky.

The Lunar Phases was first presented in February 2016 during Munich Jewelry Week. The exhibition, entitled "In Motion," featured works by all members of the Czech jewellery group Unosto.
